OVENS VALLEY UNITED CRICKET CLUB INC.

President Report 2023/24

I have been involved at committee level at this club for its entire existence, and prior with Myrtleford Saints CC since I was 17 years old. A combined total of 11 years. The year that has gone I can honestly say the pure buy in at this club has been second to none.

2023/24 we tasted the ultimate success by winning two premierships, our first premiership coming from our A grade winning the Rod Newton Sheild by 3 wickets in a thriller against Rover United Bruck CC. Our second premiership this season came from our future stars within the under 12s orange team. This game was won by 8 wickets against Beechworth Wanders. I personally would like to congratulate all involved with each of these premierships as you have created a piece of history not only for our club, but for yourselves, you should all be very proud.

In between these great team performances to achieve the ultimate success respectively we had great continuity with on field performances and commitment within all the other grades, under 12s black showed significant improvements as individuals and as a team improving the win to lose ratio up from the previous season. Our under 14s made finals with a strong rounded season which was highlighted by a maiden century to the talented Noah White. Superstar head coach of the 14s Brian still is claiming rights to the century. The 16s had a tough geographic season by merging with Greta to ensure the group got to play age group cricket, although the on-field results did not go how we would have liked, the overall outcome to make something happen out of nothing was a great effort by all involved. We would like to thank Greta for all the effort and wish them all the best as we look to bring the under 16s under the OVUCC umbrella. I would like to thank all Junior coaches, scorers, team managers and the strong network of parents around each team. You guys are the reason why our club is in good hands for many years to come.

The B grade showed significant improvement with only just missing out on finals, this team was a great foundation for our junior pathway into the higher grades. The A res continued its strong form from last season to play in the one day GF and playing in a high standard two day semifinal. A grade failed to bring the shorter form across to the longer form signalling areas for improvement and recruitment to give the side better balance. Thank you to Scott Sanderson, Rob Barry and Dylan Bursill for your commitment and ongoing power of work you guys did to field 3 strong teams across the entire season.

International recruiting headed back to Canada as we looked to recruit Gurjot Gosal as our overseas player and Junior Coach. Gosi excelled over the season by breaking the record for most wickets in a season for our A grade with 34 wickets. Gosi was also named player of the tournament for the country week representative carnival for WDCA. The biggest part that Gosi played was the amazing care and passion he put into our Junior coaching and development program which was a huge success as the kids and parents could not speak more highly of. We have listened to this and will try our best to continue a program as such to ensure the kids get the best out of their cricket at our club. Thankyou Gosi and all the best in the future mate.

Finally, I would not be able to do this job without the best Executive and general committee I have ever been apart of to date. The amount of work each of you do, drives myself and others to continue to push this club in the right direction. As a committee I can say we have the best interests of this club at mind, we have made great inroads into setting this club up for long term success, in saying this we still must roll the selves up and get to work as the job is not yet done. We cannot not get complacent with the job at hand. I would like to thank everyone who stepped into new roles on the committee and for everyone that has been heavily involved for many years. I look to lean on you again and extend the offer for anyone motivated and skilled to join the committee for the season ahead, as I wish to continue in the role as President for another 12 months.

Yours Sincerely,

Thomas Chettleburgh and OVUCC Committee.
